On the Tuesday, Les only had to work until midday so we had some time before I
had to head for the airport for some final sightseeing.
In the morning, however, I had a wander around and took some photos of some
places that show the varied splendour of Budapest.
It was a sad parting at the airport, but I was already looking forward to when
I would next be able to visit. It was most definitely one of the best
holidays I've had.

The university, just south of Gellért Hill. |
A view of Liberty Bridge and the Liberation Memorial. |
Ferencvárosi templom on Ráday utca. |
A church on Kálvin tér. |
Irányi utca near Ferenciek tere. |
A closer look at one of the buildings. |
Another rooftop. |
The Klotild Palaces (Klotild Palota) guarding the way to Elizabeth Bridge. |
One of the towers of the Klotild Palaces. |
The statue in Ferenciek tere. |
An english bookshop! I think this is on Semmelweis utca. |
After meeting up with Les, we set off to see the new National Theatre that has
been build (amid some local political controversy) south of the city centre
next to Lágymányosi Bridge. Here you see the curtain at the main gateway.
The path is lined with statues of famous people from Hungarian film and
theatre. |
A representation of the old National Theatre making way for the new. We
weren't sure why it is depicted at sinking in a pond, though! |
Detail of the theatres edifices. |
I can't remember what this is. It has a spiral path to the top giving... |
...a splendid view of the theatre and a hedge maze... |
...and the city, back along the river. |
Les and me almost at the end of my visit. |
Looking down the other side, this view appealed to me as an interesting mix of
patterns and textures. |

Our journey back to collect my things before leaving for the airport took us
past the Népstadium. This is often likened to a UFO for obvious reasons. |
