I met Les online in the early summer of 2003. It was quickly obvious that we had a great deal in common, both in mutual interests and also in our lives. We very soon became close friends and were both looking forward to our first face-to-face meeting.

This was my second trip to Budapest, however it was a very special trip and I got to see many places I hadn't seen before. We also spent a lot of time just chatting. It was a very busy and tiring weekend, but also extremely relaxing.

Budapest is a strange mix of old and new and the Hungarians seem to have a strong sense of history. Although, like in many places, some monstrous buildings appeared in the post WWII years, many of these have now been replaced by structures much more in keeping with the rich past of the country. Several large, unattractive car parks near important mouments have been replaced by beautiful squares with underground parking. The most notable example for me was St Stephen's Square (Szent István tér). This was a very noisy, busy place during my last visit (as can be seen from the previous set of photos), however, as you can see here, it is now a quiet, peaceful place.

It was a fantastic weekend and ended all too quickly. I hope the photos on the following pages will give an idea of the beauty of the city.
