Flight Plan   Back to Denham

Tracking out via the `HEN' and `WCO' NDBs was pretty easy. Once over Westcott I called up Brize Radar for a RIS to help watch out for other aircraft on the Oxford AIAA.

Flying over Oxford was great. Even from over 2000ft high it was very easy to recognise everywhere. One thing to watch out for is the mast just to the north-east near Otmoor bird sactuary, but it is pretty easy to spot.

Flying west, I basically followed the A420 (once it had come back out of the Brize CTR) to Hinton Waldrist. This comes just after a dual carriageway section after a roundabout, both of which were obvious from the air.

We did a circuit of Hinton to take a couple of photos and Simon's parents saw us and waved, which was nice. Then we went over to the Uffington White Horse passed a couple of picturesque villages.

That's Oxford High Street curving across the bottom left corner. The Radcliffe Camera is easily visible just below the centre of the image. The long buildings central in the upper part of the image is the Radcliffe Infirmary (or whatever it is now - I heard some years ago that it was going to close and be sold off).
Central Oxford with Christ Church College to the right and the Thames (also known as the Isis in Oxfordshire!) towards the bottom of the image (I once lived on Western Road which is just off the bottom there). Towards the top is the University Parks. In the middle below the Parks is Keble College (which was my college). The tall building with the reflecting roof is Keble Chaple. Near the top left is the ugly bulk of the Engineering Dept which is where I had an office for 7 years when I worked for the Computing Lab (which you can just make out across the road from Keble Chapel if you know what to look for!).
The village of Hinton Waldrist from the north-west. The road in the top right goes up to Longworth.
The north end of the village. The Grange is the big house towards the top with it's tennis court and pool. The village church is partly visible to the left.
The house on the right of the two together is Simon's parents' house. You can see the greenhouse at the end of the garden and two garden chairs. Near the chairs are Simon's parents waving frantically. Hello!
This is Buckland with Buckland House to the top left and the building in the middle of the top right quarter with a blue-looking roof is the village church.
A local golf course, but I don't know which one...
Our final destination - the Uffington White Horse. To the right you can see the remains of the fort that once stood on the hill.
