The weather round London had recently been extremely hot with little wind which are not exactly ideal conditions for Denham which has a very restricted circuit pattern due to noise sensitive areas. The runway (06/24) has trees under final approach from both directions which means height control is very important. Unfortunately, especially because of the C172's good lift characteristics, if you don't keep a good descent you will find yourself far too high crossing the threshold and have to go around (a few weeks ago when doing a circuit check I had to go around on 4 out of my 7 circuits!).

As luck would have it, the weather was showing a slight westerly which meant landings would be much easier. I decided to do a couple of circuits first just to get a feel for the conditions, and also to make absolutely sure that I satisfied the 3 landings in 90 days rule for carrying a passenger.

My landings were just about my best ever at Denham (if I may put modesty aside for a moment) and in less than half an hour I was feeling much more confident as I taxyed back to pick Simon up for our trip.
