As I reached Bovingdon (which is the initial inbound reporting point for Denham), I asked Brize for permission to change frequency which I was duly given. All in all, they had warned me about one aircraft that I never saw and said nothing about 4 or 5 which I did! Hey ho!
The Pilot Centre aircraft all have Garmin GNC 250XL GPS units in and I decided to try utilising this for the journey. The was a big confidence booster as the surounding airspace and the NDBs all appeared where expected at the expected times.
I don't think I would use the GPS as a main navigational aid as you need to look at it for several seconds each time to be sure of the information displayed and work out what is happening. This is too long to have your eyes away from the main instruments and looking out in my opinion. The GPS is, however, extremely useful for confirming the information you have from a map and your instruments.
